Bottom Line
For the most part the King's Speech seems to sparse of historical change. There is one violation of what the definition of "Based on a True Story" - the change in chronological order - but the change did not hinder or even appear to have any influential impact on the film; however, the biggest change of political alignment, is a significant history rewrite. This change is not for plot or for drama, it is instead an instance of saving face. Almost as if the filmmakers did not want the audience to remember King George VI remote connection to a Nazi supporter...
The Bottom Line? The King's Speech is indeed "Based on a True Story" and is almost as accurate as it can be.
